Default 351w

I have a 351W ready for the top end. It has a 296/300 .520/526 cam. I already have the edelbrock performer dual plane manifold. I have a 650 holley with vacuum secondaries that I don't want to use since it has set up. I was planning on using a 750 edelbrock with mechanical secondaries and manual choke. I hate electric choke. I am planning on using the windsor jr heads with the 58cc chamber. My question is, do you think the 750 is too much or too little?

What's your compression ratio?
I would say a 750 would be just about right for that setup. It's
definatly not too little.
Do you have a stick or automatic? Usually, mechanical secondaries don't work well with automatics.........usually

No the 750 definately isn't little for a 351. But DON'T run a edelbrock carb. Use a holley. be sure to give the carb more air and less fuel that way it won't be too much fuel to flood your motor out.

Ive always found a 780 vacuum secondary works great on that type of setup. Had one on my car and i was goin 9.70 @ 144. Thats some serious mph.

This isn't a brand preference is it? I have never used edelbrock before and was going to use it because it was cheaper. I was going to use the street avenger 780 holley until I saw the price tag. This is the reason I am going carbed. Fuelie is too high.

I have a manual. Auto's can suck it. IMO.

dragstang, what kind of setup were you running?

I am shooting for at least a compression ration of 9.5 to 1.

Edelbrocks are very, very high quality products. You'll be happy with either an Edelbrock or Holley carb. There is nothing wrong with either one. Since the Edelbrock is cheaper, I'd go for it too. It's like $210 for a 750 manual choke outta Summit....

I have a 750 manual choke Edelbrock carb, Performer RPM intake, 224/234 duration @ .050, .496/.520 lift @ .050, stock heads (huge bottle neck, planned on having new heads soon after cam/intake/carb upgrade, but it hasn't happened yet.)

My cam/carb are too much for my heads right now, but someday I'll upgrade to either Performer RPM or TFTW heads and everything will be just great...

A Edelbrock manual choke 750 would work great for you--period.

Out here i havent heard anything good about an edlebrock carberator. i know several people who had them and did not like them. they make excellend Intake manifolds and heads but i havent heard much good about thier carbs.

if this means anything the Edelbrock Vintage racing team uses holley carbs on thier shelbys and camaros that they race. Gonna see them this sunday at North Island Naval air station too

Everybody i've known that's had them HATED them. Their too hard to tune and get right. Buddy had one on a vega..355sbc and everytime he nailed the throttle hard it would sputter and all kinds of crap. He put a 850dbl pump holley on it and it cleared up. Edelbrock makes excellent intakes, heads, cams, etc..but their carbs suck. Why do you think they don't make racing carbs?? Prove enough right there.

I am running a similar setup in a 87 stang. Right now have an AOD but going to C4. My carb has no choke, vacumn secondaries, 80 jet in the secondary and 76 in the primary. In cool weather could probably go with 78 in the primary. I think the vac. with the quick change spring kit is the way to go on an automatic. I am running the spring for about 2600-2700 rpm secondary. Also, have the 50 pumper. If you have the fuel plate in the secondary get the kit to allow you to change the secondary jets. Watch out to be sure the bowl has a good seal as mine a small burr that had to be ground off as it was sucking air in the secondary.
Good Luck

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to go with the Edelbrock and if I hate it, then I will have to resort to the old reliable. HOLLEY.
