![]() Hey Chris ...,,Is a TFI module able to work and then not work?
My car started to act up the fuel pump wouldn't come on,...so I hard wired it at the relay under the seat,...Now the fuel pump comes on but the car won't fire ? It started acting up by no fuel pump noise and once it died on me like the pump shut off?? I stopped the car,and then tryed starting it the car ran fine? Now it won't fire at all! Even with the pump humming away? Any Ideas? Please help me !!! Thanks eh,.... Big Bopper.

![]() The TFI module can be moody, but more often than not, it doesn't act up until it's gotten warm, from driving for a bit. Also, when it cools down, it will function again, until it finally quits for good.
Your issue was with the fuel pump, and then with it not running after you jumped the fuel pump relay? Tell me your story, and don't leave anything out. You have too many threads going in here for me to try and follow. Include answers to these questions: Have you tried to pull any codes? If so, what were they? Have you pulled the plugs to verify the pump is getting fuel to the cylinders? Have you checked for spark? I'll be around on and off tonight. Take care, ~Chris

![]() ![]() ![]() I'll tell you the whole story the car is a whole bunch of different cars (5). the motor is a '88 I think no mass air but thats normal for Canada I've heard..?.. It had most of the mods on it when I got the donor engine. I put everything together in my garage over a couple of years ie;doors, hood, inner and outer fenders, motor, tranny, computer, fuel tank,top,interior,ect... The other morning I went to start it and didn't here the hum of the fuel pump. So I turned the ignition off then on a couple of times, and it turned and worked fine all the way to work 45mins away. Sometimes I would have to turn it on and off (ign.) a few times so it would run, it would run and then try to or it would die on me like it was out of fuel but you could here the pump running. It did this 3 or 4 more times until the fuel pump just wouldn't come on any more. So thinking maybe it's the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay, I removed the seat and jumped the wires on the relay plug in part, ![]() I'm out of Ideas I guess I should see if there is spark and fuel first ![]() Thanks for your help Chris , Lee.

![]() Yummy.
It could very well be a fuel pump problem. You need to get your hands on an EFI pressure tester ($30 at Sears), and check at the schrader valve. This will tell us several things. If it won't come on at all, check the inertia switch. Open the circuit, and then reset it, and see if that helps. For future reference, your self test connector, under the hood, has a tan wire that will turn on the pump when grounded, if the key is on. This is to help with diagnostics. Check for spark by removing a spark plug, attach it to a plug wire, and set it by the block, so that the plug is grounded, but the electrode is not. Crank the engine over, and look to see if there's a spark. The brighter and bluer the spark, the better. I doubt it's a spark issue because the plugs have nothing to do with the pump, but you should check anyway.

![]() Hey Chris ,....You rock!
My Stang Runs Ace! I did all the Things you suggested,..in the correct order as well ![]() All that tested good,.....so I thought that has to be a electrical thing???...,So everthing works, but not when the computer tells it to,... Almost like a "electrical engine control"LOL ![]() I remember you saying on one post that the EEC relay will make the pump do strange things..(ie;run the pump with no ign.on or anything). Anyways.....I bought a new EEC relay, pulled my old one out and it was wet inside ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hey Chris if you are ever up in this neck of the woods, don't hesitate to look me up,...you got a free place to stay! Rock on Dude! Take Care Lee.

![]() I think chris has got you on the right path, so go there first. If it still gives you fits there are three problems I have found.
In the jim howard school of fixing a car, always do the simple stuff first, because 9 out of 10 times it is something stupid dumb that makes it die. One (as stupid as this sounds......) remove your pcv valve, shake it and make sure its clicks as the ball goes back and forth. Also remove the entire pcv hose and inspect it. I had one that was completely blocked once. The car was stalling all over the place.... Two make sure the computer modules retainer bolt is completely tight. I had one guy come in with his module half on and half off. He couldn't understand why it would start run die, run 1 hr then die, run 1 day then die 4 times.....sounds a bit like your issue. We tightened down the bolt and everything ran perfect. Three, I had one car with a bad ignition switch. It would kill the engine at the oddest times, and effected the fuel pump as you described. A 35 dollar switch got everything running fine. So if chris cannot get you running, check these three things.
