Default Boxed upper

I have found out that a boxed upper works well on a sightly modifyed motor. I have a 93gt with a b303 cam, hand ported stock intake, 1 5/8 shorty equal lenght headers and 2 1/4 turn down exhoust. When i first started out I wented to be able to kick a ws6's ***. I have done just that, but only on the street. I took the car too the track in commerce and ran a 14.6 at 99.6 mph. 2.7 60' , .9 rect time. I am wondering if 99.6mph sounds right for 14.6. I have t-5 tranny. I know that the 60' is bad. Thanks for your help. And it's good to back online.

with some sticky tires i think you "should" be able to get a high 13 out of it.

drive it like you stole it with some sticky tires and let us know what happens.
i dont know if you were trying to ask if a box upper was good for you or not? but if thats what you meant than i would say no, IMO it would just kill your low end.

No i have a boxed upper. I love the thing. I have not lost much bottom end. But the mid range and top end power(to rev limit) is awesome.

Sorry for the ignorance...what does it mean to have a boxed upper? I've heard of boxed uppers in relation to the rear suspension.

I assume it's related to the upper intake, but what's different?

Thanks,

Rich D.

this is a boxed upper, the upper has no runners like a reg. intake.

99.6 MPH does not sound too bad for the parts you listed. My 93 100% stock went a best of 94-95MPH so your picking up 5 MPH is good. 2.7 60ft is pretty bad. Just work on it . Come out soft and DONT SPIN THE TIRES! On pony rims with street tires I got mine down to a best of a 1.98 so just practice. With the bread box intake, drive the piss out of it and run it right to the rev limiter, but dont hit it. I think you got a high 13 in her with some good driving. Get some underdrive pullys, 3.73's and a TF track heat(or ANY intake for that matter) and it should run about 102MPH.

Default boxed upper

Yeah, I'd lose the boxed upper intake. Do you have stock gears in the rear? Upgrading to 3.73 gears might help any low end you've lost (even though you stated you haven't lost much). Edelbrock Performer or TFS intakes might give you more low end with no loss of power on the top end. The box intakes, to my knowledge...perform better on supercharged stangs, but the benefits on a N/A motor are minimal.

99.6mph and only running a 14.6? something is wacky there. My 89 is just about all stock and i ran 14.5 @ 95mph with a 2.2 60' time....i think you gotta work on your launch a little bit and get 60' time down. i know that when i get a bad run its usually all in the launch...need some stickier tires i always seem to spin on the launch.
