Post Removing Air Pump

I will be removing my air pump soon. Is air pump and smog pump the same thing? Anyway-what all is involved with doing this. Am I going to have to buy anything besides a new belt? What about plugging up the EGR plate? Thanks ahead of time for all replies!

Yes, an air pump and smog pump are the same thing. You can either get an air pump delete bracket or get a smaller belt. Either one should work. Good luck.

EGR and the thermactor air pump are completely seperate! You do not need to disconnect the EGR lines!!! EGR works like this: There is a port in any late model heads that allows exhaust gas to travel up the center of the intake manifold (if you take off your EGR plate you will find there is a hollow place outside of the main port in the intake. The EGR valve opens and closes an opening between the outside of the intake and the inside. The thermactor only injects fresh air into the exhaust so that the catalytic converters will work properly. If you do not have cats, you should remove your smog pump. When you remove your smog pump, plug the two vacuum lines that go the the two thermactor solenoids and remove the metal pipe going to the back of each head as well as the metal pipe welded to the exhaust and all tubing/valves between those and the pump. You need two bolts to plug the back of the head. I cannot remember what size you need, but if you want I can check mine. If you have any questions, feel free to post again.

I already have the pipe that runs to my exhaust off my car. So I would like to plug the holes in my heads along with plugging the EGR plate. Thanks for all your help.
