Choking Muffler!

My fiancee' has a 1994 Mustang GT 5.0; and after letting off the gas the car makes a choking almost gurgling sound. Has anyone ever had this problem or does anyone have any ideas on what I should check out?

are you saying that it is backfiring? are they stock mufflers? if its just a slight "gurgle", thats just normal, no problems.

Well, the guy who had this mustang before we did removed the muffler completely and just put in a straight pipe, no packs or nothing, you think that might be it? I'm not a huge car guy so I don't exactly know what your asking as far as is it backfiring, it's not really popping or anything like that, it's just a deep guttoral sound coming from the engine; like it's choking on something.
