Default AOD w/shift kit

How can I keep my AOD from shifting into third gear so fast. I have to start in Low1 and shist to Low2 the back to Low1 for secong gear hen to Low2 from there to get to Third. If I got from Low 1 to Low2 not fast enough it will shift into 3rd. Can anyone help me? I think the shift kit is TRANSGO.

Thanks,

John

Tighten up the TV pressure cable (I assume this is an AOD and not an AODE). That will make all of the shifts happen much later. Standard setting is to have the cable taught at idle and then have it move exactly the same amount as the throttle afterward.

If you have the AOD HP kit, you should install the high RPM regulator in the tailshaft. This allows for higher rpms and much later shifts.

With these two, you really shouldnt need to play around with the shifter.

I know my old Transgo was pretty persnickity when it came to TV cable adjustments. There was one sweet spot where it shifted properly. I'd be leary of trying to increase line pressure too much by adjusting the TV cable. I never got around to installing the high rev kit, but I was never able to get the tranny to shift properly for good track or street racing times without doing the 1-D-1 shuffle. Of course, I'm sure you've heard some people swear by it and some people curse it. Experiences will vary. Just know it's possible to crap your tranny because of the extra stress placed on certain clutches during the process. The best way to go will be to save up for a full custom valve body from the likes of Lentech.

I actually agree. It took me quite a while to get the pressure set up so that it will shift correctly. I was simply unable to get the trans to drop back to 3rd from OD until I tightened the cable. It still takes 60-65 psi before it will jump back to 3rd and it will not happen over 55 mph no matter what I do. I'm told this is standard behaviour for an AOD. 2nd seems to hold a bit longer than I would like and it hops between 2nd and 3rd too much on the street.

Should I have tv pressure at highway cruise? I was simulating having 5.18 gears by driving around on the highway in 3rd with 3.73's to see what kinda of rpms I would pull (3500 rpm at 75. Still 18 mpg though the engine temp rose a bit too much for my liking). It seems that I need to put the pedal in enough to generate about 25-30 psi just to hold it in cruise at 75 mph. I dont know if this is bad for the transmission or if it will just creates heat.
