Question do have to pull the motor out???

hi guys. A little bit ago I bought a 88gt with a 302 h.o. E303 cam stage one port and polished heads. bbk shorties, flowmaster two chambers. Two Days ago I went to check my oil and the dipstick read that there was none in it. so i went under the car and there is oil all over everything down there comming from the oil pan. so I checked it out and there is bolts missing every where and i guess the guy that i bought it off didnt put the right oil pan gasket on because its sticking out..My main question is do i have to pull my motor out to change the gasket?. If some one on the board could answer my question it would be a big help. thanks.
hey if anyone knows how to put a pic of your car on here tell me and ill post mine.

YOu don't really have to, it is possible to do it with the motor in. YOu will just have to squeeze out the pan. Takes a little time, but you can do it.

it sux to do with the motor in the car, but yes it can be done...

then again it sux to pull the motor, so either way it sux, but pullin the motor is the best bet..

the nice part about pullin the motor is you can check things out and replace any other items in question (clutch, throwout bearing, rear seal, frost plugs) and maybe give the engine a good cleaning ...

you have to pull the motor to do it wright
its near impossible to get it not to leak
in the car. you have to jack up the motor
and tranny to slide it out and maybee even take of the pickup tube with the pan in the car. unless you have a tublar k member
with removable center then it can be done succefuly or support engine and remove stock
one its best to take engin out. then ou can fix it right clean and paint the engine up.
and maybe soup it up a bit while you got her
out have fun its a rough job.
you can easily pull tranny out with it
and put a shift kit in the tranny much esier
if its auto try to live with it for a while and kill to birds with on e stone my motors never come out without extra work

Take my advice before you go and pull the engine out. Its not a big deal to remove the oil pan to replace the gasket. All you need to do is first jack up all 4 corners of the car, (IT'S JUST EASIER TO WORK UNDER THE CAR). Remove all of the oil pan bolts, then remove the oil pick up tube, placing it in the pan. Loosen both engine and tranny mounts, then use a floor jack to take the weight of the engine off the motor mounts. Then you will need to remove the nuts on both motor mount, and tranny support bracket but not the ones attatched to the frame. Now that the engine is free, raise the engine high enough to slip the oil pan out. If I left out anything you'll have to forgive me since it has been at least a year from my last oil pan drop. Hope this helps you, and let me know if there is any problems.
