Question When is it time to upgrade the ignition?

How much can the stock ignition handle? I just finish my upper end upgrade. Windsor Jr, e303, 1.7's. When the engine gets up over 5 it seems like it is struggling to get to 6. It pulls great til 5 and still pulls up to 6 but does not climb the R's like it does to 5.
I hope this makes some since. I do have a MSD coil, but that is it. Is it time to upgrade to full MSD or is this normal? Thanks for the help.
