Default To Cat or not to cat?

I am probably gonna order an H pipe from BBK soon and what is the main difference with Cats and without? More HP without or just louder? I need to know what i should get here.

Well since it is against the law to remove your cats in any way I would say put them back on... You actually aren't sposed to remove them at all unless they are not working properly... (not that I actually listened) without cats your car will be much louder and the drone between 1800 and 2800 RPMs will be MUCH worse... the power you will see is hardly worth it... so if your gonna replace your H-Pipe, get one with cats... or you'll have a hard time getting an inspection sticker if they check emissions where you are...

okay for 1-5/8 Full length headers(ceramic coated) $369.99

Shorty H-Pipe w/ Cats $339.99

Then they have a Short H-Flow H-Pipe with Converters $339.99

There is so much stuff and yet i don't know Jack about it all, what is the difference between those two H-Pipes?

Thumbs up

If you don't have emissions I'd say go with an off road X-pipe from Dr. Gas. It has one of the meanest sounds of all the crossovers and it's stainless. Good choice on going with long tubes. What brand are you getting for headers?

If you don't have tough emmissions I'd go with an offroad shorty H-pipe. It's $110 vs. $340(w/ cats), your choice? It will not make it un-godly loud either and it won't drone HARDCORE either. It'll sound alot meaner/tougher without the cats. You won't see THAT much more power, but it'll sound much better!, and you'll have $230 extra to spend on something else. The only reason people buy an H-pipe with cats, is if they have to pass emmissions.

No emmisions test here in Tennessee.

I am looking at BBK Headers but they say that BBK Headers require the BBK Short H-Pipe

I will probably go without Cats since there is no testing here for emissions.

Should i keep the Cherry Bombs that are on my car now, or switch to Flowmasters? I am just wondering how mean it would sound if i kept the cherry bombs? It is loud now.

I heard a car the other day with free flowing exhaust and Cherry Bombs that sounded wicked as hell. It was even a Mustang, but get this... IT HAD A CHEVY 350 IN IT!!!!! I wanted to kick his @ss, but I refrained.

I will keep them most likely. I think i might go for a ride in a minute, i have had her parked all week. I need to feel some Stang power,

I am splitting with my old lady most likely and i think a nice ride in my Stang will make everything better.

My new quote will be " Who needs a woman when you got a Stang" lmao

you will get more torque on a stock or near stock car with cats. i'd say get cats, unless you have something major (heads, cam, s/c, and etc.), if you have only minor mods (exhaust, intake, and the like), you'll be better off with cats.

Exhaust is the first place to start for engine mods in my opinion, so if you plan to do more to the car I wouldn't base the exhaust you buy on what mods you have now, but more on what mods you will have in the future. Just a thought.

Red face Off-Road Pipes

Alright, I'm a cop and the last thing in the world I care about is how loud some joker's car is. If you get a cop like that they really have nothing better to do, really. As far as passing emissions, I would keep the old pipe with cats and slap it on for inspection, then take it back off once you pass. Is it a pain? Yes. Will you pass and get your sticker? Yes. Worth it? Up to you. Most cops don't care, we have more important things to take care of.

Just my .02-

How about shorty's and a off-road X-pipe? That is the way to go IMO. The X tones it down as far as the Db's, but it really sounds awesome. And it's worth a little more HP than a H, and that's what it's all about isn't it? If not I have a used high flow cat H-pipe I need to get rid of. It has less than 2000 miles on it. I bought it to pass emissions here in Cali, and a couple friends have used it to pass also. It's a BBK unit if i'm not mistaken.

Ok, my personal opinion on this: buy the cheapest O/R H pipe you can find but makes sure it's stainless. I bought a Headman and it fit perfect. I also have 2 chamber flows and it sounds really nice. It's scary to some people. I get compliments all the time though

You'll probably wind up ditchin' some power down low with the H pipe w/out cats but for the money you'd have to spend on the H pipe w/ cats-well worth it. Spend the extra money on pullies and gears and you'll more than make up for it.

As for emissions (if you have the inspections) keep the stocker like stock89 said.
