Default Quick SC question...

Just out of idle curosity, I was looking at the various superchargers out there...and I came up with a few questions I couldn't find answers to.

1, I've got almost 100K on the car. If it's in good mechanical condition and I only ran 3-4 psi, would I hurt anything?

2, Is it worth only running 3-4 psi, considering the cost?

Hi Jeb,

I have the same amount of miles on my car and I installed a s/c last summer. 3-4 psi will not hurt anything as long as the engine is still in good shape. I started out with 4-5psi and was running 9psi for a while. I tore down the top end this winter for new heads though so I didn't get a lot of miles on it with the 9 psi. Even with the 3-4 psi you will notice a huge difference. If your suspension and tires are stock, first gear will be kinda useless.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Now I just need to find a nice heated garage...

I'm new to the forced induction thing, but I would have to disagree with LX5liter. I'm not certain, but I think I read for every 100 hp you make with a supercharger, it takes about 30 hp to turn it, so technically you only get 70 hp. So if making 40hp with 4 lbs of boost, your only gaining 25 hp of so. Seems like an awfully small amount to gain for such a big price.

Like I said, I'm new to this, someone here knows what benefit, if any you will gain.

I'm sorry, but you'll have to break up what your trying to say. Where are you getting the 65 added hp from 4 lbs of boost? Even if that is the case, 65 + 225= 290, not 295. Sorry to be nit picky. You made reference to 270 flywheel hp, if you take away for driveline lose, that only gives around 230 rwhp. That's not much added hp for the cost of a blower. I think I've read most factory 5 liter mustangs but out around 190 rwhp stock. I just don't think it's worth the investment for such a little increase. A good set of heads and exhaust would give close to the same results in rwhp, and still cost less.
