Question turbo

i have a question about turbo charging my 351
hey yall. i have a turbo and intercooler off of an 86 svo motor that i have in my shed. me and a buddy were talking the other day about how cool it would be to throw it on my 93 hatch. we were thinking it would be a cheap horsepower booster. but...im not sure what i would need to do or even where to start. is it even big enough for my 351? its got iron gt-40 heads with a 40 over bore, forged pistons, and 565 lift cam from Comp Cams. How much horsepower would this give me if it even worked? Please feel free to email me with any ideas you may have.
Thanks Ya'll

Lightbulb turbo

Turbocharging your 351 is not a bad idea but their are some things you have to consider. First of all i happen to know the owner of a very reputable turbo shop called Northeast Turbo in McAdoo PA. So from hangin around with him I learned a few things. I may not be 100% correct but i will try to give you the best advice possible.
The turbo that you have is way to small for the cubic inch motor you plan on installing it on. The cfm of that small turbo is not enough to efficiently run a motor over about 275 cubic inches or so. The minimum turbo that i would plan to put on a motor of your size would be T-04 hybrid which is slightly larger than a Buick Grand National turbo. Even this turbo is considered to be very small and would only give you a gain of 25-75 hp depending on the level of boost.
Hope i helped you make a decision.

i had 306 that i sold to get a turbo kit im going to be putting it on a 351 (408) . the turbo u have most people use them use 2 of the to make enough cfm so just make it a twin kit or just 1 big 1 to handle that 351

pkrwud, how much for those turbos with manifolds? and also,...
bamabanger, i have the same heads, unless ported and polished they dont flow very well. i am upgrading to aluminum or getting some head work very soon. they could be holding your motor back, especially if you turboed it.

The kit is from Incon and it's the 800TTi kit. Good for up to 800 HP. It comes with the full turbo assemblies as well as the intercooler. It also came with everything needed to install the kit like plug wires, fuel pump and all clamps and hoses. It was a truly complete kit. The only thing that I did not care for was that the exhaust side of the turbo assembly (exhaust manifold, turbine housing and dump tube) came uncoated. I'm not a big fan of rust so I took them to a local shop here and had them disassemble all of the parts and then had them coated. Actually, they were triple coated with a gray insulated coating and then coated with a ceramic coating to make it look good. The gray coatings were used to keep the heat in the exhaust and to protect the ceramic coating.
The problem is that Incon is having lots of problems. It looks like they're going out of business. Too bad, they made a great kit.

About $4500

Give www.turbomustangs.com a try. They have links to all the major turbo kit manufactures as well as most of the companies that just offer turbos, plus links to build your own kit (commomly know as a JY setup). Some of those would help you determine what size turbo would work better for you. The one from the SVO will definately not be enough for you, heck, two of them would probably barely be enough. For a 351, somewhere between between a T62 and T72 would probably better suit you for a single setup. For a twin setup, some type of TO4's would work.

get a second tuurbo and a diesel shop will have all the pipe and
little stuff you will need

http://www.toohighpsi.com/DadTT/dadTT.htm

I followed most of what they did except I made my 351 truck upper into a box and use the stock compter. also forged pistons with the stroker crank.

so i routed mine like a cold air set up.

My dyno hit 712 hp but after going over the chart we are thinking the hydralic lifters are holding upper rpm down . I'm going to post on this some time soon i have to get the graph and some pics scanned. the 2.3 turbo could be set up singley with plans for a twin set up. I would have to think about the cam you have though
