Post TRANSMISSION

problem with my transmission is .... while i was driving home from the garage it seemed to slip into neutral. I had to shut off the engine and re-start so that i could move.
The next day it sounded worse.
Evertime I made a complete stop at a stop sign it slipped back into neutral. Only when I made a complete stop.
Same thing. I had to shut off the engine wait a few minutes then start again and it would move. Can anyone tell me if its a sensor, or the computer, or is it major transmission problems?
I never abused my 5 speed 94 GT (automatic transmission).
Did I leave anything out? Is the mechanic trying to rip me off? Another said it might me something small. I dont know.
Does anyone else?

It sounded like a rattling noise or maybe grinding sound while i was driving. Not when it slipped into N.

4 speed with overdrive. 5L engine. Always well maintained...of course it's owned by a woman.
