AFR question I'm in the middle of planning my combo for my 90 GT. My goal is to be at 12.9 in the 1/4. I decided on AFR heads and was wondering if the 165's would support times in this range. ------------------ 1990 Mustang GT 5.0 1966 Mustang 200 six 2001 Ford F-150 5.4

definately. and they have the potential to go a lot farther and faster than that. the 165's actually flow within close spec to the 185's. ------------------ Todd 1995 GT/T-5 Pulleys; 65 mm TB; Flowmaster cat-back; Mac off road H-pipe; FMS aluminum driveshaft; short-throw shifter; HD clutch; Cobra R's; Cobra front and wing

Are the 185's too big for a subtle N/A combo? I've seen alot of people talking about the 165's but the 185's are not that much more money. Are the 185's still smog legal? ------------------ 1993 Conv. LX 5.0, Air in the tires, Fuel in the tank, Put the top down, Floor it till it breaks!

24lb'ers will work well for you, as long as you dont plan on a power adder down the line the 185's are more suited for a stroker or a 351, or maybe a 302 with a monster blower good luck ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, BBK headers, off-road H-pipe, flowmasters, subframes, 65mm TB, March ram air ,MSD coil, U/L control arms, 155lph f/p, Crane Adj.FPR, Nitto drag radials, best 1/4--> 13.76@101.4 on a 2.17 60ft

The 165's and 185's both retail at $1349.00. That's actually MSRP but I've seen them cheaper. After talking to my engine guru, I'm sold on AFR's. The 165 is definately a better choice for the 302 with it's smaller ports. A 185 head is a little large for a normally aspirated 5.0L, but they both flow very similar numbers. I'm going to build a 347 eventually with 185 AFR's. But I don't want to put them on my 302 in the meantime. I think I'll get the 165's and when I build the bigger motor, just have them ported. ------------------ Todd 1995 GT/T-5 Pulleys; 65 mm TB; Flowmaster cat-back; Mac off road H-pipe; FMS aluminum driveshaft; short-throw shifter; HD clutch; Cobra R's; Cobra front and wing [This message has been edited by todd95GT (edited 10-04-2001).]

when you get 'em, you'll see that there's not alot of porting needed...the CNC port job is VERY nice ;-) ------------------ 84 convt,'95 302,AFR's, performer 3.55's, underdrives BBK shorties stock cam, 1.7's 13.85@102.5 and a '68 stang that WAS nasty ;-)

Got a reply from AFR today. The tech said go with the 165's on a 302. Great with a blower. 185's would be fine with a 347, of course, but the 165's would flow quite enough to support a strong low and mid range curve with the larger stroker motor. And the previous post was definitely correct, after AFR cnc's their heads, there isn't too much left to remove. they're very nice heads and the staff so far has been very courteous. ALSO...HE ADVISED THE 185's REQUIRE FLYCUTTING THE PISTONS ON A 302, JUST FYI FOR YOU GUYS! ------------------ Todd 1995 GT/T-5 Pulleys; 65 mm TB; Flowmaster cat-back; Mac off road H-pipe; FMS aluminum driveshaft; short-throw shifter; HD clutch; Cobra R's; Cobra front and wing [This message has been edited by todd95GT (edited 10-05-2001).]
