Question Removing pinstripes

I have an 84 GT that was repainted about 5 or 6 years ago. The pinstripes are starting to peel off in places and some places are not. How can I remove the rest of the stripes so I can restripe it a different color. I have heard about sanding it with like superfine paper, but I am not sure. The rest of the paint is good so I do not want to mess it up.

Thanks

a heat gun or a hair dryer should make them easy to pull off

I always use a Hair dryer. Heat it for about 5 mins on high than it should peel right off. Any residue left on use Goo Gone.
