Default Damn carburetor, I need help with a carburetor problem.

I have been having a problem with my carb cutting out every once in a while. I will be driving along and it's like it goes rrrrrrrr blub rrrrrrrrrrrrrr blub rrrrrrrrrr. Sorry that is the best way I know how to describe it. It is like it will cut off for a second and then it will go with out any problems.

Have any ideas on what it could be and how to fix it?

When this happens is the engine warm already? Try jetting leaner on the secondaries? What type of carb is it? Float bowls set correctly? Fuel pressure? Ignition system (which I doubt)? Check it out and let us know

Yes the engine is warm already.

It is a Holley 750 dp vacuum secondarys.

Fuel pressure is set at 7 psi.

The ignition is a digital 6+.

I will try to jet it down it the back a little.

This does sound more like an ignition problem. If it is eratic like that-if it is a fuel problem-possibly a power valve on the way out. Maybe a little tear that is oopening and closing it. Although this sounds very similar to the problem I just tackled in my 84. Thought for sure it was fuel-almost no question. Worked on the carb for a few hours and I decided to put some new plugs in that I had sitting on the shelf for about a month-while I was thinking about what else to change or adjust on the carb. Ended up that was all it was-just a change in plugs. Fired it up to run to a local parts store to get some info on my carb and it ran perfect. Has been running perfect since then. The plugs that I took out of the car were only about 5 months old-and weren't fouled either-very strange-but glad I didn't spend any more money.

Don't totally rule out the carb, what intake are you using? I'm using the Torker289, and I had a fuel perculation issue (caused the same issue). I installed a heat shield, and everything was fine.

Just a thought.

Can you be more specific as to when this occurs? Only at WOT? Only while cruising? At what rpms? Under load/no load? Also, what mods have been made to the carb? Have you changed the vac secondary spring? Checked the float level?

Take care,
-Chris

750 dp AND vacuum secondaries? I assume you just mean vacuum secondaries. Try dropping your fuel pressure to 6 psi and check your float settings. Also if it happens while just cruising at consatnt throttle try a heavier secondary spring.
