Dont Have A Fan On My Car, Need Help With The Black Magic Wiring Fast
I need help fast, i dont have a fan on my car right now, and I am in a real hurry to get the flex-a-lite fan wired up.
What Guage Wire For Black Magic Fan??? What size wire, and what kind of(size) fuse/circuit braker should i get? I have a toggle switch for the manual fan turn on thing, but its not the one flex-a-lite says to use. will it still work? it has 3 terminals, "supply volts", "on acc.", "earth ground" and it says 12v, 16a connections. should i hook the ground part of this switch up? Thanks

I would use 12 or 14 gauge wire. As far as a fuse/circuit breaker, check the fan to see how many amps it's supposed to pull, and add 20% (for example, if it says it has a 50 amp draw, use a 60 amp fuse/circuit breaker).
As far as your switch is concerned, the ground connection is for the built in light. You can only use that switch if it is used to close a relay that then supplies power to the fan. If you try and wire the power from the switch to the fan, you will melt that switch in no time flat. Always use a relay. Take care, -Chris

I think the fan already has a relay built in along with a thermostat switch etc. You just need to run a 14 ga wire from the starter relay post with a 20 or 30 amp fuse or fusable link mounted near the starter relay (like all the other power wires leading out of there) The fan was listed to pull 14 amps, so don't go too high or there won't be any overload protection.

i got the fan mounted on the radiator today, but as for the switch... what should i do?
is there no way i can use it? there is a 12v power wire that is always hooked up, and another 12v for the thermostat, and the switch is a 12v, but it is meant for a switch.

Buy a relay that has two terminals that allow it to be triggered. Attach a wire from your switch one of the relay trigger terminals, and the 12v wire from the t-stat to the other relay trigger terminal. Ground the relay ground terminal to the chassis. Run a power feed from a fused link at the battery to the relay.
That's it. Take care, -Chris
