I agree. I was neither a bodyman nor a painter but I worked at a body shop for a year and a half. It was considered a premium quality paint shop. An average full paint job was about 2000.00 or so.
All we would do is scuff the paint if it was good condition. Damaged was filled, primed and scuffed as well. While we didn't strip anything, the quality was in what we sprayed on the cars. You may not get show car quality but you can get OEM quality without stripping.
