stuck in a hard spot! please....some advice
I have an 88 5.0lx, it has about 94k on it. I am debating on getting a long block for it. I have about $2000 to spend. The stock motor still runs great. I found a long block for my price range it sets at about 350hp.I would like to just modify the stock motor but i dont know if i can get it to 300hp for that money? also does anyone think that there are to many miles on this motor to start adding upgrades? will the motor hold out? any recomendations would be gret thanks!

350hp for 2,000 on a long block is a good deal but you wont see 350hp..you will only see those numbers if you get that longblock and intake,tb,cam, mass air and injectors

I would go ahead and buy some mods for your present engine if it still runs ok. These 5.0L engines last forever if you take care of them. Mine has over 120,000 miles on it now and it still runs like a new one even though I drive the hell out of it every day.
One thing you can do is a compression check to see what kind of shape the engine is in. If the compression check turns out ok and it's not burning or leaking oil and you take care of your engine it could very easily make it to 200,000+ miles. I'd say go with a full exhaust first, then get some 4.10:1 gears if you're car is an AOD, 3.73:1's if it's a T-5. Then get some underdrive pullies, high amp alternator, and aluminum radiator. That would still leave some money left over for some 1.7 roller rockers, valve springs, and with a little more saving you could also get a new MAF, TB, and some injectors. That would definately wake her up. ------------------ 90 Mustang LX 5.0 My Ride*My Site |

My car has over 160k on it, and i run it hard and fast almost everyday, it does leak a little oil, but it doesnt burn any.
I would get gears and full ehaust mods, maybe long tubes, oh and why not some heads or cam? ------------------ 90 lx coupe: Mac cold air fenderwell, accel supercoil, advncd ignition,3-core radiatr, FMS alum D/S, Black magic fan, 3.27grs, 3chbr flows.
