Max lift with TFS heads
Looking to match a cam with a set of TFS Heads and 1.6 ration RR's.
I am leaning towards a TFS cam (still wanting to stay with one supplier). But I noticed that the exhaust life is .510". Is that too much with stock pistons? I want to leave the bottom end for a while yet. |

It's more of the intake valve you have to worry about with the TFS heads, the exhaust valve is a pretty standard size (1.6") I don't think that .510 would be a problem, even on the intake side.

According to their website and private email reply from them, you are ok up to .540 lift.
http://www.trickflow.com/ Look up the heads and install instructions...

I have found that the answer you get depends on who answers the phone, but the accepted limit is .540". I'm sure that could be exceeded, as most recommended limits can, but before doing so, checking with clay might be advisable.
Take care, -Chris

I'm running a f-303 cam with my 306 @ .512 lift. Not as radical as the x-303. But it gives it a nice semi-rough idle that i like.

Yeah this is a subject that really rubbed my *** sore. The shop I bought my heads from was REALLY worried about the clearance and told me to even check clearance with my B cam.
I wanted to use an F cam but since the shop was worried I kept the B. After the install I found out that theres PLENTY of clearance and I could have used the cam I wanted. Im not happy at all but its my own fault.

I run TFS heads with a cam that is (0.510") on the exhuast side. No problems. The trick flow web site states that max recommended lift is 0.540 " for these heads.
