I'm tired of 302 cubes!
I already have a 302 block to use besides the one in my car, and I am seriously considering building a 331 stroker when I get my tax return. But for a few bucks I could hit a junkyard and get a 351 block and just stroke it to 400+ cubes. I want to know if I can use my cpu and other electrical parts from my current setup. I realy want to stay fuel injected here, Or should I just build a 331 from the block I already have instead?

The simplest answer if you have a MAF car.
It could care less what engine you have between the frame rails. All its going to see is X-amount of air being measured then its going to see X-air/fuel ratio Now a better question would be how much HP can my stuff support before it starts to mess up or self-destruct, or curb performance |

If you've already got a block, then why not get the stroker kit. Unless you've got a huge budget, wouldn't it be a bit cheaper than getting the 351, then having it rebuilt, and all the stuff to make it work (different lower intake for fuelies, cam, lifters, pushrods, motor mounts, etc.). Sure you might need that stuff for a stroker, but they're less expensive to get than for a 351 block, at least when I priced the stuff out.
You could just put all your stuff from your existing 302 onto the stroker and just upgrade from there because all the stuff you'd need would basically be for a 302 with some extra breathing capacity. And its nice to lift the hood open, and say yeah, its just a little 302. 351's are easy to spot vs. a 302. |

86gt I think your right. Its just too much of a mess to fuel inject a 351 stroker. I really want a balanced high compression 331 anyway. But Im sure you know the saying "Theres no replacement for displacement"

fastang,
Man I only read the subject and not who wrote it and I thought that some one was tired of a 302 and going to go...gulp...smaller! But while it was loading and I saw that you wrote it, I realized it must be about going to a bigger displacement. Go 331. My wife's cousins are racers (of the GM family ) and even they said they'd drop a 350 or 396 in a second for a Ford Stroker! I was pretty impressed. I don't have any personal experience with stroker kits, but I would personally buy one (if I had the money). ------------------ Driving: 1998 F-150 Far way in Edmonton==> 1995 Mustang GT |

Go with the 351. It's not that hard finding parts and eveything is in a similar price range. Plus, you get a better rod to stroke ratio and a stronger main. It's just dirty pulling the motor

I would go ahead and do the 347. The rod ratio is still better than the old big blocks (454, 427 etc). Some are advertized to go 100,000 miles on the street now. But I dont see why your going with a stroker before you do your heads and intake. You maybe really impressed with your car after that. Unless your planning to do it all at once.
Im still up in the air on 351 or 347 myself. The price of the swap is almost the same either way. Sky ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS Heads, E-303, edelbrock intake,70MM TB, 73mm MAF, off road H, headers and 3chamber flows. 12.55@107mph Runs on 87 Octane and gets 24mpg! |
