i am going to be doing this swap on my project as well, and the thing i know about the balljoint is that it still will work, the old one is just taller. the cotter pin will not be butted up against the nut, it's like 3 threads high. three threads up isn't a big deal, the nut shouldn't loosen even without the cotterpin, it is just extra precaution. You should be fine. Let me know how it turns out.
