Default 302 to 351

I have an 84 GT 302/5spd the engine is knocking, I also have a 351W that is good I have the correct pan and pump set up. My question is can I use the flywheel set up and headders from the 302 on the 351,I also am going to try and use the pullys brackets and accessories from the 302. the headders are full lenth but I have a set of stock shortys if needed. what do you think any real problems ahead of me

For that year 302 the flywheel has a difference balance weight than the 351 so it can't be used unless it is re-balanced. Harmonic balancers also won't interchange. The longtubes won't work either due to the difference in deck height of the two motors. Sounds like you would have to use the shorty's. Don't forget that the distributors are different too. Hope this helps.

I have a distributor from a 78 351, I also have a flywheel off an 80 302 if that is any different, shortys I can live with.I don't want to spend a whole lot on this car and I'm very close to stripping it out,car needs a bunch of work, I have an 87 that was a 4cyl that might become this car I dont have a title for it but the chassis has never been beat, rusted or wrecked,If I combine the two I'll have a nice 84 GT when done probably with the windsor or the 289 I have(1966.040 with 69 351w heads)

That 80 flywheel will work on the 351 as well as the distributor. I think that flywheel will only accept a 10 inch clutch though. You have to compare the two to be sure though. Good luck.

Default headers

Dont give up on the headers either. I have changed from 302's to 351's in one of my trucks, several times and kept the same long tubes through out.

I believe the accessory bracket is a different size for the 5.8 then the 5.0 as well.

Don't give up on the headers!!!

The 302 long-tubes on my racecar now (brand unknown) fit. The right side is a pain, as well as starter installation. A hammer was used in the starter area for a little clearence. Race-only so no exhaust to hook-up, you may have trouble there.

They may work!!!
