Post Intake Manifold ?'s

I have a basically stock 5.0 GT. There has been no work done to the engine as of yet. My friend wants to sell me a Downs Ford ported and polished GT40 upper and lower intake. I was just wondering how it would perform on my car given its current state. The heads, mass air, exhaust, throttle body, etc are all stock. With that considered, will I notice a difference in power? If so, how much? How will the power be both in low end and in the top end? Any insite would be appreciated. Thanks.

On your stock motor, a ported and polished GT40 intake isn't really going to help you that much. You basically still have "bottlenecks" in your motor (i.e. TB, heads, small valve size, exhaust, etc.)

Plus, since the intake is ported and polished, it would probably work better on a more modified 5.0.

If the price is low, and you plan on making head, TB, exhaust upgrades in the futre, then I guess it would be a good buy.

I basically want to make sure that I won't lose any power. I need to replace the intake manifold and valve cover gaskets anyway, so I figured that I might as well throw this on while everything is taken apart. Eventually I'll have heads, exhaust, TB, and all of that other good stuff.

He paid about $800 for it new. It's still in great shape, and he'll sell it to me for $350. Good deal?

I wouldn't make that mod alone. If you can I'd group the intake together w/ the MAF, TB (otherwise you'll be starving the intake). If the price is right, tough, it's always worth it, and you'll have extra $$$ for these other things. I don't think doing it alone will hurt you any, but I also don't think it'll help you much either. The increases will be minimal unless you group it together with similar functioning grouped parts (intake system, fuel, exhaust).

Hmm, I suppose I will go for it then. The upper is already port matched to a 75mm throttle body, so maybe I'll throw one on along with a bigger mass air meter. What size should I go with there? Thanks again.

I say go for it. you might lose a small amount of low end torque, but you should pick up 5-10 horses up top.

75 mm throttle body is to big. stick with a 70 or 65mm. it wont hurt if the upper intake opening is bigger than the TB. And i would go with a pro-m bullet 75mm MAF meter.

I agree w/ Mach 1.....the 75 TB is way too big. Remember you're MAF has to stay larger than the TB....so if you got the 75 TB, you're looking at an 80 MAF. I'd stick w/ a 75 MAF and 65-70 TB.
