remove paint from valve covers
I was wanting to remove the paint from the valve covers and bead blast them, but the coating won't blast off. Does anyone know what I could use to get it off?
THANKS. |

That is not paint. It's powder coating. I'm not sure if an aircraft type paint stripper will do it or not, but I kinda doubt it. Otherwise you will have to use a die grinder and varying grits of flap wheels.
This guy has a pretty good article on polishing intakes which have the same coating... http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P.../polishin1.htm ------------------ 90 Mustang LX 5.0 My Ride*My Site [This message has been edited by AxemanZZ (edited 01-12-2001).] |

I was able to clean mine up pretty good, but it took a lot of time with the bead blaster. After that I used some high temp ceramic engine paint to freshen 'em up.

I have 5.0 valve covers that I sanded down with 60 grit then 150 then up to about 300grit. Then I used aluminum polish and they look great, just like proffesionally polished aluminum.

No, I did not clearcoat them, so I need to polish them with a rag and aluminum polish every couple weeks. I have heard good and bad about clearcoat on polished aluminum.
