Exhaust installs are always a pain!, yes, try installing the tails first, WD'ing anything and everything to help, also when joining mufflers, although it's a little hokey, long, long bolts can help you to snug everything up tight.

Don't feel afraid to go to a muffler shop, as they are usually cheap for this kind of help.
