Leaking trans
She's a drippin'
I've got a slow leak of trans fluid coming from my car. I've got to look at it tonight, but where are the problem areas to look for or start first on an '88 LX 5.0 5-speed? Overnight, maybe have 1-3 drops? Last 2-3 weeks I think, but I just started pulling into the garage last weekend. I was parking outside on the dirt before that, so I didn't see it at first. Thanks- It'll be getting nice soon, and I hate to hear my car sob because I left her home to drive the Explorer... That just ain't right...

1-3 drops!, whew!, you had me worried for a moment. Without seeing it, I would say front seal, then we are guessin' from here?
overflow? loose tranny bolts? power steering? rack? (dont ya love a nice rack?) Put a large, clean piece of cardboard under the car to "mark" the leak, and look from there, leaks can look like they are coming from one place but are actually coming from a mile away, so be aware of that. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm about to leave from work, so I'm going to grab a few pieces of cardboard. I figure that since it's my "fun" car not my "necessary" car, I've got time to try to figure this out right.
I'm going to wipe the entire thing down, from the valve covers, to the bottom of the bell housing, and try to see where the leak starts. The only thing that makes me nervous, is that the last time I had it out, it seemed really hard to get the car in gear, and has been getting progressively harder to get the car in gear. Like I said, I had it parked outside, and I didn't see the leak. I don't know how long it has been leaking, and I haven't yet checked the trans fluid level. If it's too low, could I have already really screwed up my T-5? I need to fix this car. I need this car. I crave this car...
