Talking trying to get into the 12s - 11s. (need some help)

i want to get into the 12s - 11s. i need to know what kind of engine setup i need. like heads, cam, intake stuff like that. i want to do it n/a so i have room to put in a supercharger. I have a new 306 engine and the setup i have now just is not working for me, i have gt40x heads, e303 cam, cobra upper and lower intake. The best i have ran with slicks is: 13.20. Someone please help me out. i am looking to spend about $3,000. thank you very much.

I'm sorry to say it but you need new heads, cam, and intake. You would have to completely strip your car so it had almost nothing inside to get it too run that fast with that set up. I'm sure some people have gone that fast with a combo like that, but they had a striped race car. What do you have done to your car besides engine mods listed? You will need a good suspension and tires too.

As was stated, you are going to probably need another 2 grand to get you that far with a N/A 306. You will need heads, intake, cam, lots of suspension work, and some dieting. Or if you want to get into the 11's, just sale the stang and buy a honda already modded with lots and lots of colorful stickers! jk

Tubular front end, drag shocks with 70/30 or 90/10 struts, 50/50 drag shocks, new upper and lower control arms, subframe connectors, Holley Systemax II Intake, 75mm TB, 76mm MAF, 30lb Injectors, anderson cam, ported and polished heads, remove all weight that is unneeded..
That should get you deep into the 12s easy...

although your combo would be very dificult to see high 11's. I think mid 12s are easily attainable. You need to get that thing tuned, and drive it like you stole it. What was your mph on that 13.2 run? 60ft time?

If you do some research, you'll find that alot of people can take a close to full weight stang on slicks and run high 11's on a 302/306 N/A. you just have to have the right combo, and have it in good tune.
I'd suggest AFR165's, Systemax or Edelbrock perf RPM intake, and an agressive cam that likes power up top. If you can drive, your motor is in good shape, and you are in good tune, then high 11s should be yours

good luck,
-Drew

well before you quote me on any of that, we need to know what year stang it is and what tranny you have

if you have an SN95 convertable with an AOD-E then, then you can disregard everything i said about getting into the 11's

Do you want to go 11's-12's n/a before a s/c??? If 12's w/out the blower is ok, then I think w/ the correct suspension mods, slicks, and switching to 4/10's since it looks like you have an AOD......w/ a good launch you should be in the mid 12's. Then add the s/c (and the necessary fuel delivery mods) and low-mid 11's will be easy.

I think if I were you and you had some money to spend on the right combo, I would call Ed Curtis. He knows his stuff. He could recomend what you should do to get there. His porting and cams are bad@ss. Good luck.

Ed Curtis, Flow Tech Induction. He is a very experienced engine builder and racer. He is helping Pure Street racers acheive high 10's with combo's much like a street stang. I consider him to be one of the top people in the business. You tell him what you want and he will tell you how to get there. I would definitely give him a call. Actually I would email him. He is almost never around to talk to. His web site is www.flowtechinduction.com Good luck man.

88workcar went low 12's with a Cobra intake, edelbrock heads, and an E cam. He was speed density computer system.

exgmguy is in the high 11's/low 12's area N/A with TFS TW heads, E cam, 1.7's (I think) and a Holley intake.

skyman was capable of running low/mid 12's N/A before the giggle gas got his engine pushing for more. TFS TW heads, E cam, edelbrock intake. Course, he was lightened up too.

Don't know why everybody thinks you need some kind of psycho setup to get there. A great launch is 3/4 of the way. There are nearly bone stock engined 5.0's running high 12's with suspension, gears, and a couple minor mods. Not super hard to pick up 100hp over stock, and that would be high 11's with a killer suspension.

Not to spam or anything, but I too have to suggest Ed Curtis of FTI. I mean, the guy helped me get my near 3700lb 95 GT convertible to run 12.7's at a best mph of 106.96mph. The car is COMPLETELY streetable.

On a side note, my dad has a 91GT with the holley systemax II kit on it, 3.73 gears, pulleys, CAI, shorty headers, offroad X, borla mufflers w/ turndowns, Factory 5 UCA & LCA's, comp engineering subframes, and M/T ET streets. He ran 12.6 at 107mph last year. BUT..... we sent the kit to Ed C to be fully ported, flowed, custom cam, 10:1 SRP pistons, 4.30m gears, 31spline axles, TKO, and an 8pt S&W roll bar in hope of mid 11's N/A!!! The short block is being assembled as we speak. I'll be sure to update everyone when we get it to the track.

No two cars run the same.

Have a port job done on your GT40X heads. Those are good heads, no reason to loose money selling them. Go with a SYSTEMAX II intake. 70MM TB, 24lb injectors and matching MAF.
Get a custom cam, and raise your compression to about 11:1.

You probably have all the exhaust already.

Go with a 4.10 gear, Slicks, 90/10s up front, 50/50s in the back, and drag springs.

Remove any uncessary weight and accessories, A/C, PS, etc.

W/ some tuneing that should get you there.
