Info on 5.0
I am looking at buying a Mustang. I want something easy to modify and make fast. I also want the 1994 and up (the prievous model) model. Do they make a 5.0 in these models? Why is the 5.0 better then the 4.6? Is it still easy to soup a 4.6 up? How is gas mileage compared on the two? I am in need of help, any will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Ace |

The 94 and 95 are 5.0L. The 5.0 is not better but there are mor aftermarket parts for it. The 4.6 should get better gas mileage.
If you are going to supercharge it I would get the 4.6L because they respond to a supercharger very well. As far as cost the 5.0 will be a little cheaper to modify. ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX 12.565 @109.38mph 1.764 60ft |

The 1994-1995 Mustang GT's came with the 5.0 OHV V-8.
The 1996-1998 Mustang GT's came with the Gen I 4.6L SOHC V-8. Here are the specs 5.0 215hp, 285lb/ft Auto 225hp, 300lb/ft Manual 4.6 215hp, 285lb/ft 96-97 225hp, 300lb/ft 98 The general consensus is the first gen SN95 4.6L will run about 2 tenths slower than an SN95 5.0. The 4.6L is smoother, but they lack the low end grunt of the 5.0, and from what I've seen, dispite some peoples claims, their top end isn't significantly better either. The Gen I 4.6L is a good engine, it's just not easy or cheap to modify, and it's stock performance is pretty lame. Don't expect a bone stock car to run 14's with the 4.6. The bone stock 5.0 should be really high 14's. The 5.0 is significantly easier to find parts for, and significantly cheaper to modify as well. If your choice is the Gen I 4.6 vs the 5.0, I would suggest the 5.0 for performance applications. Especially considering the extra cost involved with modding the 4.6. I don't know about the gas mileage, but I would think the 4.6 should do a little better as well. |

Well if the gas mileage isnt that much of a difference I will probaly go with the 5.0. I want to modify the car on a budget so it sounds like a 5.0 will do better. Do you guys know how much I should be able to get a 5.0 94 or 95 for. Thanks for the help!

you can find a nice 94-95 5.0 coupe 5 speed for anywhere from 7000-9000. i've seen some as low as 6500. i would pay around 7 for one with around 60,xxx miles. i was recently shopping for one of these, when i came across the cobra, which was old lady driven and immaculate so i couldn't pass it up.

i personally think, considering your budget (im right there with ya bud!) that you should look for an 87-93. they are reputively the fastest stock and will cost a good deal less to get your hands on one! they also have many more and cheaper parts to come by, as mentioned before about the 5.0's
unless you have something against that model it may be your best bet. just a thought. i personally like them better anyway. too many of the newer ones around. these are becoming more and more rare everyday! Thanks for the help. My final question (for now) are the 94-95 5.0 fuel injected? I am pretty sure they are but I dont know for sure.
