Question Tranny oil cooler question

I bought a tranny oil cooler for my '82 and I want to hook it up in series with the radiator. Does it matter which way I connect the lines to the radiator? In other words, is there a specific "in" and "out" line on the radiator for cooling lines?

Thats the same thing I did. Yes there are in and out lines. Look in a chiltons manual or the hottest line out of the 2 going in the radiater is the IN line. I think thats rite. Been awhile. There is a few ways to set it up.

It really doesnt matter which way you hook it up. I prefer going through the rad first, then into the aux. cooler, but there are pros and cons to eithier method.

The top line on the rad. is the "in" line. You can splice the cooler between the lower rad "out" line and the tranny.

Mach 1 , is the bottom line, on the tranny itself, the return line and the top one the out? I just want to make sure I have those lines hooked up correct before I hook up the cooler.
What will happen if the lines to the tranny are mixed up...if anything?

I wouldn't run against gravity, if you know what I mean. Just be careful and make sure the flange on your tubing is of the right type or it'll leak.

On my C4 (shouldn't be any different on yours...I think) the front output is where the pump is and the rear is where you want the fluid to go back in after it's been cooled. Hate to tell you this, but I think it's a wate of time to run it through the rad. I tried it last year and didn't like it. Caused too many leaks (but that was because I didn't have the right end on my tranny line that the radiator accepted). Now I am just using a normal cooler in front of the rad and I installed a gauge in the dash. I haven't seen the tranny temp get over 175 yet while driving on the street. Just my .02

You want it going through the rad if you live in a cold climate. The fluid should be at operating temp. and the rad. can help warm it up in winter. Some say in hot climates its better to just use the aux. cooler by itself.

Citing leaks as a reason not to run to the rad. is lame. That would however be a good reason to do a better job next time you install something.
