Post Headers

The guy at the shop told me my headers need resurfaced so, and that is why I have a header leak. Does this sound right? They are bbk unequal length. He wants 378 bucks to resurface and put new gaskets on them. I told I can get a new pair for 160!!! He says the headers might be bent a little on the surface, but it is pretty thick metal. What do you guys think?

Thumbs down

Thumbs down on that an. You can get a new set of BBK equal length jet-hot coated for $299. On cheap headers the flanges warp. But BBK has thick 3/8 flanges, so he's full of crap. But all in all, don't pay 368 dollars for them to be resurfaced. And I wouldn't ever deal withthat mechanic again.

Where do you think the leak is coming from. I just changed the gaskets last night and it still sounds like crap when I get on it. I am stuck!!!

I've never been to this shop before. What can I do to fix this leak. It sounds like crap. Every time I drive by some hot chicks I have to let off the gas..... Usually I would throw them a rev.. :-)

Cool

did you re-torque them? you MIGHT have a crack around where the flange is welded to one of the tubes too... maybe thats why he wanted so much... te re-weld all the rubes..
you might try running the car in the dark.. you might see where the leak is if it's close to the port... if you have them off the car, try running a propane torch around the flange to tube welds... you'll see the torch flame on the inside if there is a hole..
