Post 100,000

My car rolled over the 100,000 mile mark last night. I have recently replaced the alternator due to it siezing and causing a small fire (as some of you may have read in an earier post of mine). I have also replaced the front struts and all 4 tires in the past few months. It's my daily driver and a former owner of the car had a nitrous system on the car. Is there anything special I should watch out for after passing 100,000 miles?

Sychros on the T-5 are notorious for wear; change fluid to synthetic to help the trans.
Replace rear shocks and carefully check out the front-end (ball-joints especially).

Beware if you have the original radiator, they are a replacement item (get a 3-row if you replace) and of course check all hoses.

I would consider replacing the TFI module (attached to distributor) as they are a weak spot and 100k is a lot of miles.
Oxygen sensors should be replaced if they are original. Most things are obvious, such as brakes, exhaust, etc. but check everything.

Most 'Stangs can do 100k easily (my '90 has 110k - runs sweet and trouble-free) but things do wear out and you have to keep up.
Just don't get paranoid about the mileage; all cars are a lot more durable than they used to be and the fox Mustangs have held up remarkably well over time. You have a solid machine, just take good care of it and enjoy.

Thumbs up

I have an '88 with 167,000 hard miles and it still runs great!! Of course I've had some wear and tear problems, but nothing too serious yet!! *knock on wood* But it's to be expected!! It still runs mid 13's and runs great! I switched to synthetic at 100,000 and do not regret it!!! Good luck man!!!
