What motor would you prefer?
OK, I'm thinking about buying a new motor next summer. Mine has about 90,000 miles on it now. It burns oil in the lower end and has about 40,000 hard miles I am looking in Jegs at the Aluminum Head Long Block Engine Assembly/ 302 GT-40 which has 345 HP for $3300. OR the Iron Head Long Block Engine Assembly/302 GT-40P Cast Iron Head which has 270 HP for $2800. What do you prefer, What do you think the difference in 1/4 mile times would be between the 2, and are there any other modifications that need to be done when installing this. My mechanic said that he can install it for about 500 bones does this sound right? thanks for all opinions-
Jim

You could get the 347 short block assembly and put your own heads, induction and cam in it. Thats what I would like to do this winter.

It would make more horsepower than than others, but a 347 with aluminum heads is definately going to cost ALOT more. The crate motors are an awesome buy, plus they are very reliable. The GT40 crate motor, should net you high 12's with supporting parts.

i was thinking the 345 HP would get me to mid to low 12's. you are talking about supporting parts such as my existing mods? or other parts i need to buy? does anyone have either of these 2 motors on their stangs???

If I had to build a motor it would be a it would be a 351 or 392 with afr 185 heads. Remember the fuelie 500 in MM&FF. It was a 392 that produced 500 hp with a 351w EFI trickflow intake and afr 185 heads.

I purchased the alum. headed long block from Central Coast Mustang (essentially the same as the GT40 long blocks). It has performed flawlessly for the last year. Starts like a bad day and runs like a raped ape.
I haven't taken it to the strip. It serves as a daily driver - 3.08 gears still - yuk. It was very cost effective. A stroked long or short block will run you at least $1000.00 more. Good luck.

What are you looking for? More specifically, what are you going to be using the car for? Daily driver? Strip only? Street & strip? Weekend warrior?
This will help us point you in the right direction. E

wow, its hard to believe that NO one has this motor! Anyways, I want it to still be a daily driver, but have the ability to roast almjost anything outhere when i need to. I dont drive it in the winters, but enjoy driving it around in the summers.
Is it possible to have a mid 12 car and a daily driver? That would be my goal- Do you think any of the motors in the aforementioned will accomplish this goal? Thanks again!

You'll have a much better shot at 12s with the GT-40 aluminums than the GT-40ps.
