Depending on mods, it will probably give you 2-3 hp with the mods you have. I set mine at 14deg once and it pinged like SOB. Backed it down to 12 and it was fine. But then on a hot day it pinged a little. So it's back at 10 now. Oh well. If your gonna do it, remember to always run 93 oct. and remove the SPOUT connector while adjusting

Advancing the timing is only worth about 1 HP but it allows better response time (quicker acceleration) and can lower et by a tenth or better in some cases.
Worth doing as it's free, helps performance and can be easily returned to stock with a twist of the distributor. Try 12, then 14 degrees and use the 92 octane (or better) gasoline. |

Well maybe i'm lucky or something....but when i'm at the track and run NA and forget to bump timing from a nitrous pass.....
My ET is almost a 1/2 second slower. That is like having an extra 50 HP. Stock timing can be as low as 6*...usually 8-10* I ran 12-14* in 100+ degrees of cali summer. On 92 octane. 89 if it was all e-way driving. I dropped my timing to 6* once for a smog test and the car fell on it's face. Yeah....it's well worth it. ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.stangnet.com 11's coming soon!!!! Heads, intake and cam are all here |

With my timing at about 9 degrees, I went 15.4, then with it bumped to 12 and 89 octane, I went 14.6 I did get a little better traction that day, but the MPH went up too, 90 to 95, I'd say it makes a difference. Lets just say if you don't have anything better to do, grab a timing light and set it at 12 or so, it runs fine on 87 octane at 12 (mine does anyway)
