Default Real MPG???

Okay,
I am curious as to what guys are really getting as far as MPG.
I am interested in hearing tips on tuning results from forum members that have had good results w/ mpg.

It seems that I average around 15-16 mpg, with my setup below.
I "get on it" often, and I know the 3.73's don't help or hurt. I do half and half highway/stop and go city. I also believe it letting the engine come up to operating temp first in the a.m. before driving.

Again, I know this is subjective. I am just interested in how some guys manage to achieve "20 mpg"....

I actually would like to know how some people test there MPG. I frequent a local Mobil station and tend to use the same pump. What I do is hit the trip or write down the mileage. I fill up the tank 'til the auto shut-off of the nozzle, then I squeeze again until the second time the nozzle shuts off, just to be sure it wasn't a fluke. I then travel whatever distance and when I fill up again I use the same exact procedure for filling up. The amount of fuel on the pump read out should be as accurate as possible. You then divide the mileage on your tripometer by the exact amount of fuel used and, hopefully you get as accurate a figure as possible. This is what I do. I posted this because I've heard people say they only get 24 MPG out of a 3 cyl Metro and other people say they get 22 out of a suburban, and I really think they're doing something wrong!!

I drive between 18-30 miles each way to work, depending on route, and a fair amount of city driving. I usually put on 400-500 miles a week, about 250 just going to work.

I used to get 17-18MPG in my '95 4.6L T-Bird and 15-17 in my 2000 4cyl Wrangler with 30X9.5 Mickey Thompson tires and 4.11 gears, 29MPG in my '81 4cy deisel Mercedes 240D and 42MPG in my '94 Metro 4dr 5spd w/ac and 12" tires (I list those items 'cuz they matter on that car!).

I get 18-19MPG in my 'Stang.

I go to school in Ft.Myers, Fl, which is 180 miles from my house in the keys. I filled up before leaving school, and filed up when I reached my house. The car took 7.5 gallons which equates to 24mpg. But as you can see, my car is stock except for exhaust really. I have the 2.73 gears and I turn 2k on the factory tach (I know they tend to be off a little) at just above 80mph.

My '89 is stock. I get 19 mpg around home, and 26 mpg on the highway.

I do the trip odometer divided by gallons consumed method. I too use the same station and pump every time, 93 octane.

I have the white speedo gear for my 3.73's which is technically wrong. My 88 t-5 calls for the red gear with 3.73's but it's close.
Still, I only manage 15 mpg or so. I admit my driving habits are what one would call "poor".

I'm interested in replies with guys with 24 # injectors.
I have a "theory" that despite the maf calibration, by default you will consume more fuel due to the increased duty cycle.
This is also despite the adjustable fpr.

Feel free to contradict this....

Actually that would make quite a difference. A 7 tooth drive gear versus the 8 tooth drive gear means you're getting 12.5% worse mileage on paper than you really are. This puts you close to 17 mpg if you do the correction.
I get about 21 mpg city and 24 mpg highway on average, but my car seems to be a bit of a freak for mileage. I think the 3.73's help out a lot around town being able to get into 5th gear fast. The new motor should quickly destroy that

Default white vs. red...

Even at 17 with the 12%, that's still fairly disgusting gas mileage.
Guess it's something to figure out....

89 LX 5.0 Hatchback - 3 chamber Flowmasters, alum driveshaft, 225/60R16 tires, 9% speedometer error, removed air resonator, stock 3.08 gears, no spare (other misc junk taking it's place), 13-14 degrees base timing, 93 octane.

21-23 mpg (after 9% correction) driving 100 miles round trip to work, 80% highway miles plus minor local night and weekend driving.

Some tuning needs to be done, I get some high rpm knock in 3rd under hard accel.

My 93 gets 16 or so around town when I drive it, about 22 when wifey drives. It gets about 30 on the highway. I think one fill does not tell the story, you need several, then average them.
