I think you would have to be real limber to do it while on the car. Not saying it can't be done, but my fat old fingers ain't goin there.

The dealer has the plugs, but they screw in with a wide flat head screwdriver. Thats a problem. I used two bolts instead, as to have something to wrench on. I don't remember what size they were, but they were big. Maybe go to the dealer and measure them up for a bolt. Oh yeah,(Hole being plugged is threaded.) And the bolts only need be as long as the plugs, maybe 1/2 long or so.

The tubes may be secured to something else, like a trans bolt. Nothing else important back there.

Sure you can plug the holes while the heads are on the car. You might have to remove a few other things though. You will need a 5/8" thread, 1" long bolt or plug. I used plugs that needed an allen wrench to install, from the hardware store. Its cleaner then a regular bolt and cheaper then going to a dealer for the plugs. Are you running an off road h-pipe? Cause if your not, removal of the smog pump and system will clog the cats from the lack of air flow the smog pump generates.

I did what your talking about doing this past summer. Heres a pic and you can see that it cleans up the engine bay a little bit.

On all my cars, I just took a piece of 1x1/8 metal about two inches long, drilled a hole in it. and bolted it to the back of the head, There is 7/16 threaded hole right beside the smog holes that works well for the bolt and then the metal bar jsut covers the hole. Just be sure to use good high temp RTV sealant on it nad you'll be fine. And its alot easier to do it that way than to try and get a screw driver up there with the other plugs.
