Default Tires??

I ran a 13.4 at 107.8 on my last trip to the track on my street tires, 60' was 2.37. I now would like to put tires on to improve my times. What can I expect the ET differences to be between slicks, ET Streets (or similar) , and drag radials.

When I've used slicks on several different cars...they are usually good for 4-5 tenths off of your 1/4 mile time.

I've never ran E/Ts, but I would guess 3-4 tenths off of youyr 1/4 mile time.

Drag radials would be more like 2-3 tenths...

Obviously driving has a lot to do with it also...as well as the powerband of your motor, especially when using slicks. Having to launch at a high rpm so as not to bog out of the hole...

I ran a 14.04 with Nitto drag radials and a 2.07 60ft.

I ran a 13.66 with MT ET streets with a 1.79 60ft.

Go with ET streets and get it right the first time

Dark_5.0 - How do those MT ET streets work on the street? Do you do much street/highway driving with them? If so, do they have real weak sidewalls? What pressure do you run them at & do they wear out quicker than say a BFG drag radial?

I rarely run my 5.0 on the street and havent been running the ET streets that long. The side wall really isnt weak at all with the MT ET streets. I run them @16psi and I dead hooked and pulled a 1.79 60ft.

The BF Goodrich drag radials hook up great for a radial but still not as good as ET streets. The BF Goodrich drag radials dont last for shlt if you drive on the street. Normaly about 6,000 miles.

My brother put almost 120 runs on his ET Streets last year with a few monster burnouts and they are still going.

Go with ET Streets the first time and get it right. I put my ET streets on my 15 inch turbines. Normally on the street I put my pony rims on which are equipped with Nitto drag radials.

I think the MT ET streets would last about 4,000 - 6,000 miles of street strip use depending on what kind of a burnout you do.

After trying the ET streets I will never try anything else.

Drag radials are what I run. They do ok on my 17" cobras, but Im going to 15" Rodlites next year, and am going to run 275/60/15s, with the right suspension and driver, you can turn as good of times with those as slicks, after all, look at the 8 second drag radial cars in nmra, same kind of tire, and they only can run 325/50/15s

Dark_5.0 - I have some Hoosier 26x8.5 in. slicks that I run at the track that I've pulled some 1.7s with. That's pretty impressive that you pulled a 1.79 60ft. time with the ETs. I currently have some bald BFG drag radials on 16" pony star wheels on my Mustang. They hooked great with lowered tire psi & a good burnout. But they'd spin if I launched above 3500 rpms. I was inquiring about the ETs because I'm getting ready to buy some new tires for the street...and was just wondering if I should go with the BFG drag radials again...or if I should go out on a limb and get the ETs for street drving? Do they make ETs for 16" wheels?

everyone in my "crew" runs 28x10.5 et streets. a couple of guys switched to drags to see if they would work any better and they were just horrible. the wouldnt hook at all. we tried changing fuel pressure doing a shorter/longer burnout...........everything. the drags just would not hook for anything. they switched back to et's and woooooooopdy ddddddooooooo, they would dead hook. so i can honestly say that i will never run a drag.

ET STREETS ALL THE WAY. i dropped 7 tenths off my time compared to my nitto's. (i could launch on the spray )

Yeah, launching on the bottle with the real stickies, thats all I could do, 6500 on a 150 shot would be the only way I kept from bogging, but on the dr's, of coarse you will spin some, they arent as agressive, but 3500 to 4000 is it on them depending on the side wall aspect

You can get the ET Streets for a 16" rim. The 26X10.5 will work fine on Pony's. I've had a set on mine for about 1 1/2 years with probably 30-- 1/8 mile passes and about 3000 miles. Look about 1/2 worn. Mine are actually labeled "Big End Street Drag" by Mickey Thompson. I believe these were leftovers of a version of the ET streets with different labeling to ship out of the country. You might keep an eye out for some of these and save a little money. They look and perform (I believe) just like the ET Streets. I went from 2.20 60' times to 1.88 with them. When these wear out, I'll definitely find another set.

So with ET Streets...a moderate warm up of the tires, real heat needed, or do they launch OK just spinning them over?

From what I have seen and been told by others, it doesn't take a massive burnout to heat the ET's up but you still need to heat them. DR's on the other hand take a freaking huge burnout to heat them. I was having problems last year and asked a buddy how he heated his Nitto's up. He told me "Just do a burnout and look straight ahead. When you start to see smoke coming up to the front of the car, they're warm enough." I thought he was crazy but it seemed to work.

Summit has the 26x10.5-16's for $166.95 each (part # MTT-3792 )
Tubes are $44.95 each (part # MTT-9552 )

Gonna place my order in the next week or so. I really can't wait for spring now!!!

I run 12.50 @ 107 on slicks. I run 12.70 @ 109 on raidials. A 1.55 60ft on slicks, and as good as a 1.71 on Grand Spirit cheap everyday raidial.

Yes I am light, a few my say my car is an acception. I am not posting to bragg. I am posting to curve your spending. If you NEED tires buy them. If you can afford a set every 3000 miles get the ET, or BFGs, or NITTOs, ect.... If you need tires and you can not afford to buy a new set next month, get a good raidial that will last and you can drive for a while.

If you want a better 60ft work on your SUSPENSION.

I hope that I have not upset anyone by saying this, but this is my thoughts, It is your decision.

The tire situation isn't a problem for myself. I have 93 Cobra rims that have Nitto DR's on them. I also have a set of Pony rims that are just sitting around. I can afford to buy the ET's and put them on the pony's and then I can just swap wheels when I go to the track.

As far as the suspension goes, yes I need springs, shocks, subframes, and control arms. There is no way I'd launch with ET's with a STOCK suspension . The ET's are just another part of the puzzle that I need. And since they will be on a spare set of rims, I could get 2 years out of them with little problem (about 25 runs per year).

Hopefully, the suspension will be done by April when the stang comes out of storage.

Last year near the end of the season, my slicks were shot, so I borrowed a set of really worn ETs. So worn I didn't even do a burn out, just a dry hop. I was surprized silly when the dam things hooked! My 60 didn't change at all from when I ran slicks. I was very impressed, it also taught me I really don't need to do big burnouts to make them work. I plan on using them for my 59 when its done, but only on cruise nights, to try to make them last.
