Default Hurst vs. inner shift boot battle

I got a hurst shifter awhile ago and still am not really happy with it. It seems awefully "notchy" to get into gear, and it ate my inner shift boot. So, I replaced the inner shift boot and noticed that, no joke this thing is eating my inner shift boot. WHY!? I noticed it's getting pinched between the stop and the handle. What's up? Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

I am installing an adj. cable/quad soon, it needs it. Will this help remedy the "notchyness", and how do I know that the stops are adjusted correctly? It's not popping out of gear or anything, sometimes it just takes a little coersion.

Thanks.

Rob

Default hurst shifter

I have a Hurst shifter & love it. It doesn't pinch the shift boot or anything. I've heard many good things about the Pro-5.0 shifter...you could always get one of those if you're not happy with the Hurst. But I'm sticking with my Hurst.

i had the same problem with my hurst, THAT SHIFTER SUCKS. it ate my boot within 2 days, shifting gears felt like crap. it made the trans feel really sloppy.

GO TO A "PRO 5.0" made a WORLD of difference with mine.

i have had nothing but bad experiances with hurst

What's up with mine?! My friends is clean and smooth shifting too, and hasn't eaten his boot. I am a conservative driver (occasionally spirited), so I don't think it's that. How do you know if the shift stops are adjusted correctly? Maybe that could be it....

Something must be wrong with you guy's shifters... I've tried out most of the shifters....I really like my Hurst one the best. Notchy? I bought mine because it wasn't like that...

About the inner shift boot. I cut it, so that it fit around the base of the shifter (below the stops.) You wont have any problems with it anymore.

I am in the same aggrement as Simi. I like mine and have had no problems. But if you are unhappy, just sell it on ebay(someone WILL buy it) and get a pro 5.0, B&M or something else. There was a article last year in 5.0 that they did a shifter comparison. I do not remember the month of it though.

Just put the car into gear, but still push on it as if you were shifting it hard...tighten the bolts until they hit the shifter bottom...then back the bolt off a 1/4-1/2 of a turn, so that you won't actually hit the bolt everytime you shift. Check for proper adjustments in all 5 of the gears.

When i got my car it came with a hurst shifter in it. I think there are two shifters Hurst offers for the mustang, but i forget the names of the two.
The shifter in my car has eaten the inner shift boot, but i don't much mind. The shifter has a very firm, notchy feel that i used to hate, but i love it now because when i really slam the gears i works perfect and slides right in.
I guess you have to figure out what you can live with and what you can't stand.
