Default T-5z slipping out of 2nd. Bent shifter fork?

I hadnt had this tranny too long before it started slipping out of 2nd. Of course the first thing that I think is that the synchros are going out, but I dont think its that because i never ground the gears and it happened too fast to be from wear. Also the 5th gear grinds going in.
Do the 2nd and 5th gears operate on the same shaft or are they somehow operated by the same fork, or perhaps somehow one affects the other. I may be wrong but this seems more to me like a bent shifter fork. Positive stops are set right too.

Cool

If you did not buy it new, you got ripped. If you have low miles on it and it was not new, someone put a sycroniser in there, grinded and buffed a few spots and sold you a lemon.

It's not the fork, you need a gear, a sycroniser, and a blocking ring. I can fix it but the shipping would kill you.

You can fix it yourself if you are any kind of handy with a wrench. Hanlon and a couple of others sell rebuild kits and videos that can teach a monkey to rebuild a T5. I'm living proof. I'm on my second rebuild this month (two trannys, not the same one twice)and both did the same thing you describe to one degree or another. What I noticed commmon to both was just plain ole worn bearings. True, there were other problems but I think the popping out of gear was because of worn bearings letting everything move around so much that a lot of the travel the shift forks were supposed to make was going into moving the rotating assemblies back and forth as well as laterally.
FYI. . .you cannot bend a shift fork, they break. Also, if it's popping out of fifth, you're probably going to have big problems in the near future. Fifth gear is the weakest looking of all the gears in there and while it doesn't actually tie into reverse, both are actuated by the same levers. . has nothig to do with second gear. first and second use the same synchro as do third and fourth. Buy the video and see if it's something you want to tackle. It's 16 or 17 bucks and well worth it

Default Welcome to the wonder ful world Of the T-5

I have a 3.8 L V-6 Now Verse the 351W in Getty Up The 3.8 L uses the same T-Crap I have a Guru at Town&Country Ford that does nothing But SVT for $50 He made me a Jig that will true a stock 5 speeds make yourThrow Much shorter and also Less tendensy to do the 5th Gear twist like so many of us Have. My Real sugjestion Is to Get yourself a SD 5 speed although aftermaket parts dont exsist for this Truck version and the throw is Longer The adavatage is You wont beat yourself half to death trying to Deal with the T-5 Yes the SD does requier new Gearing But I bealive its well worth the effort not to have to put up with a T-5's crap. If you really are in Love and have some Money then a Borg&warner convertion Is nice I have also seen Some 4 speed manual converstions on Drag cars

did you check the stops on your hurst, if the bolt came loose and is not letting you go all the way into second gear it will do that.

my very first mustang i bought "had a blown up trans" but all it ended up being was the stops on the short throw. i never did tell the guy that the trans was perfect, he probably wouldve felt like a dumbass. oh well, i got a deal on it.

Personally if you were to do anything id say to do one of 2 things. If your a hardcore drag racer switch to a c4. If you love the stick then spend the money and phone up tremec and order one of their tranny's. Going to a truck tranny wouldnt be my choice. Get a TKO 2 3550 and youll love it and youll probably never break it.

Better yet, get yourself a Richmond 6 speed, they're only about $4000 with everything. Actually, a Lenco 5 speed would go even faster, not sure on the price though. I'm guessing around 5 grand. They do make a street version but it still doesn't downshift.

The C4 Transmision is an Automatic and shift kits can be purchased to adjust this Transmision to whatever you want street and strip strip or street.

I am Very very Heavy Into Drag Racing Getty Up Go! Only Goes In One direction Straight trying to turn her is like steering a Bull when she is at WOT. We Installed the HD Manuel 5 Speed Manual from a F250SD Pickup this is also where i got my 5.8L or 351 block. first and second Gear Must be Replaced espetially if you are turning close to 440 Hp at 6,500 RPM I would sit there all day and smoke the rear Tires Off the car if the gearing wasnt changed. However since it was changed and is a manuel its fully street able.

Don't let the female voice on the other end fool you. Linda knows more about t-5's than anyone I know.
