I read that article and am really considering getting that intake. It seems to be a well rounded intake. The only setback is they did away with the removeable plenum cover that they are famous for, sort of. It is there, but smaller and on the under side of the plenum. But man it looks nice. Almost looks identical to the systemax (or trick flow I cant remember) intakes.
To actually answer your question, they opened up the throttle opening and gave it a v shape between the throttle opening and the runners on the bottom side to even out the velocity of the incoming air. They also ported the lower intake runners to accomodate for the extra flow generated with the new design of the upper. The reason for the changes was to increase top end and try not to sacrifice any low end. Caymon
