Default Help me please!!!!!

Hi guys I have a problem.Just put my motor together today it's a 1981 302.I put a cam with 488 lift and new springs and lifters.I ported the heads out a little.Anyways the darn thing wont start.I have gas and fire.I didnt install the headers yet but it still should start without them I think.I reused the old valves and installed them in the same hole that they came out of.I have an edelbrock intake and a predator carb. The timing i beleve is on.It wont even backfire.Could this be from not lapping the valves when i reinstalled them?I really need some help here. Thanks guys!!

I've ran other motors before without the headers on.You just cant run them long or you burn up the valves. So sorry bude but that aint it..Any other suggestions?

Cool

Check to see if the plugs are wired according to the firing order of the cam.

You should be able to crank the car without the headers, however its not a good idea to run for long, like you said earlier. In your original post you said you thought the timing was on but it wouldn't even backfire, it sounds like it may be 180 degrees off. You can rotate the engine one complete revolution to get it on the intake or exhaust stroke (can't remember which one you need). Then rewire the plugs and check the timing. I know on a 5.0L there is an indicator on the crank pulley that shows Top Dead Center, it may be worth a shot. Hope this helps.

Might have slipped the distributor in a couple of teeth off.
