Biting at the bit
Have I got a question for all the guys and girls out there. I'm planning on beginning to modify my 87 GT in a month or two and to be honest I don't really know where to begin. It's a completely stock car so it's much like a blank canvas. I'm hoping to achieve a very fast car but to still have it be a daily driver or possibly a seasonal later on. I thought I'd start with a new intake possibly but I need advice...really really badly.

I am going to tell you some things I wish someone would have told me in the beginng.
Dont put 1 5/8 inch headers on stock unported heads cause they will slow you down. Trust me been there done that your car is a speed density car so good initial mods would be. Gears 3.73's or 4.10's Good tires in the rear it is dumb to mod the hell outta your car just to be slow cause you cant hook up. 2 1/2 H or X pipe which ever you prefer. Explorer intake cause it is cheap $200.00 easy to install and performs great with stock heads. 1.7 roller rockers to give you a little more lift, again this is an easy bolt on. and this is a must for your car especially since it is speed density. Get a FPR (fuel pressure regulator) this is an easy bolt on mod that will allow you to better tune your car. If you havent done so already advance the timing, remove your air silencer and drop in a K&N filter. The 87-88 mustangs are my favorites next to the 93 cobra, Later,

As far as I know being my car is a Canadian model it had to adhear to later introduced Cali regulations and it is indeed a Mass Air. It has the chip along the intake if that helps. Thanks for the info though. New pipes huh...never would have though of that.
PS-Any info on what exactly things like an air silencer are and where they should be in my car would be greatly appreciated. I'm completely new to this but I do want to do it myself and learn. PPS-I'm going to go and look at the chip and get a number off it or something in hopes I can get this Mass Air vs Speed Density thing figured out. I can see not knowing it for sure could really screw me up right off the start.

Air silencer - Remove the stock air box and you'll see another piece in the fender. Remove that and reinstall your air box.
Have fun, Rich D. |

Happily MAF
Okay it is indeed a Mass Air system with the sensor part number being F1ZF-12B579-AA. So now that that is clear up what are the possibilities for a good start?

Well since it is a mass air car you dont have to be as careful when doing modifacations.
All the things listed above still apply. You are less likely to have problems since your car is a mass air car. Do the gears first, most bang for the buck by far.
