Default Fox Body Weight???

Ok, everyone I've talked to has told me the weight of a fox body, in stock shape, is around 3200 lbs or so... And that the GT's are slightly more, possible up to maybe 3400. I looked in my door jamb today, at the sticker... It says 4230 lbs! Can that be right??? That's insanely heavy! According to the horsepower calculator, I've got at least 275 or 280 hp to run the ET that I did....and I know I can pull a better time too. So, what's up with this weight thing? Thanks all.

4,230lbs??? Damn you need to put that pig on a diet!!

That's obviously wrong! The book I have say's the stock shipping weight for a 91 GT should be around 3,191lbs.

Do not add yourself to the impossibly huge list of idiots that think that number on the side of their door is the weight of their car. No, your car is not putting 280 to the wheels, and no, your car does not weigh 4,1XX lbs. Your car, if it is a notch, weighs in at about 3190, if its a hatch, 3300, if its a GT hatch, 3350-3400, and if its vert, 3650 - 3750. That number on the side of your door is GMVW, GVRW or some other obscure acronym which means the maximum weight your car can hold and work properly, or some such useless number.

The ignorance must stop, i'm tired of seeing this question on threads, and i'm even more tired of those who are blessed with the greater knowlege not stepping forward and helping others out.

Thank you and good day.

Isn't this a message board for Mustang questions? Excuse me, I thought this was a place where people helped one another out with info. that they might not know...since there are many others on here with tons of knowledge that they are happy to share without stating that they are sick of stupid questions...or that they are just so full of knowledge that they don't know how others could be so dumb. Don't answer the question if it's going to annoy you so bad. Lame-o!

apparently "so full of knowledge" means literate to some, as if you read my post a little closer, you'll notice i knock people that let these types of threads go unanswered.

And as for you looking to start a flame wherever you possibly can, grow up.

I have a 1989 GT Convertible.

Sure it weights 3650 - 3750lbs?

Someone's on their time of the month...

But I do appreciate you telling me about what the number on the doorjamb ACTUALLY means. I wondered about the car's weight and everyone I know told me to just check the door, so, I just checked the door.

I really don't think Simi stang was trying to start a flame war with you. I mean read your post from an outsider's view. You just seem to come off as annoyed to have to reply to this post.

3,705 lbs for a vert seems really heavy to me. Again I'll revert to the book I have and shipping weight for a 93 GT vert is 3,365 lbs. I really don't think the dealer added 340 lbs to the factory weight of the car, unless your weight is 340 lbs??????

well, a friend of mine with a 90 vert, same as mine only 5 speed, weighed in at, I believe, 3600, which makes about correct sense, manual is lighter, and he was on ultra-lights, i'm on cobra r's, sounds about right to me.
