someone that knows t-5's, help!
Well i went to the track friday, made a fool out of myself, and hurt my tranny in the process.
I started a burnout, the wheels werent wet enough, so it violently wheel hopped, also shaking off my cai tube, which had me spuddering down the track, watching a honda pass me up. I get to the end and fix the problem, and go for another, this time i did the burnout right, but spun a 2.5 60', it was horrible. When i was leaving the track i noticed my t-5 making a whinening noise, but only in 1st gear with the clutch engaged, (clutch pressed in) and ONLY in that gear. The t-5 isnt real old, im wondering if that wheel hop did it, it was so bad my wheels litterally bounced off the ground! before i go outside and pull it down, does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? or how much it would cost? I been having bad luck with my new combo, but the motor runs great, tires arent holding, and driveline parts are failing, btw, the t-5 shifts fine, and the noise goes along with how fast the driveshaft is spinning, all the rest of the gears are quiet as new, im stumpped guys, could i luck out, and it just be an input bearing? also, the clutch works fine. thanx Brian..

I dont know what the hell that noise is, but mine has done it for about a year now, and I have had no problems with it. I dont want to give you the false impression that there is nothing wrong, I am just telling you my experience with it.

well they all make noise on deceleration, but mine is louder than normal, like something is wrong, kinda embarrasing when im going through a parking lot, i find myself in 2nd riding the clutch now.
I put it on jack stands today and drove it in 1st gear, the noise is there on accel, but minimal, and much louder on decelleration, in sync with the d/s, it does it with the clutch in when im coasting too, which means the d/s is driving the tranny noise at that point, the clutch does not change it really.......anything else? so noise on deceleration, clutch in or out? does that help anyone determine the problem? im hoping it isnt a chipped tooth off the 1st gear, or countershaft(this is what i read in my manual it could be)......thanx if i have to pull it apart, i can kiss my intake goodbye for now, i did however get my new 190glp pump in friday.

I been driving it, trying to find out more, but the word that best describes it would be a 'whirling' noise in 1st.
so, that might help someone determine whats wrong. thnx again...

he he he sorry man i had to laugh sounds like mine but she let loose going into third while power shifting... First i accidently poped the clutch in reverse because some ****** was flashing his brights at me then i heard a odd whirling noise then came trying to race a slower mustang and found out he would beat me after third. I broke the input shaft, i think they said somthing about the bearing and the retainer. Worse noise i have ever heard in my life... Oh well im not really helping ya here but that is my t-5 story but now i am a happy owner of a tremmec

Your transmissions shafts are probably just getting loose. The whine is more than likely a mis-mesh if you will. Most of the time, it's due to old age. . .lots of miles. . the bearings are getting worn and things are starting to shift around due to the play in the bearings. As far as the burnouts? erhaps you hammered the tranny enough to cause some extra clearance to pop up. Damaged or dinked bearings. . .could be lots of things but most likely, things just got loosened up too much. Will it fail? Maybe. . .maybe now, maybe later.
