Question Where to mount MSD 6AL

I am looking for a place to mount a MSD 6AL on my 95 GT
I have a cold air intake that cleared alot of space but I am not sure. If anyone has some suggestion or pics I would be greatful.

I have a 90 gt and mine is mounted on the transmission tunnel on the passenger side near the heater core. Now that I think about it, I guess I could have found a better place incase my heater core goes bad, but I have had no problems so far. The only problem I have encountered is with my passengers accidently knocking my tach signal wire out of the box. I had it covered with the factory carpet, when I still had carpet.

My friend has his underneath his cold air intake. The best place to put it is inside the car though. Under the drivers seat is a nice place that is out of the way. The trans tunnel like Caymon said is also a good place, just more out in the open. Don't get me wrong though, I don't think you'll have problems mounting it under the hood, it's just out of rain and stuff like that if it's inside the car. ~Brian

Thumbs up

I mounted mine under the drivers seat. It's out of the way, protected by being inside the car, and is very easy to switch out the RPM pills if needed.

Did anyone have to extend the wires to mount it inside of the car? If so, how much and which ones?

I have a 90 Lx with an MSD Digital 6Plus and I mounted where the battery used to be under the hood. I haven't had any problems with it getting wet. It just gets a little dusty. Another place I have seen them is in the cowl under the wipers, you could make a shield to prevent them from getting wet. As far as extending the wires just go to a parts store and get the number of colors you need and in ten foot rolls. You can always use the extra later. Good Luck

Default On the right shock tower

I mounted mine on the front of the passenger side shock tower with the summit mounting plate. It fits and looks great. Why is everyone so concerned with the box getting wet in the engine compartment? They are made to be mounted there. Read the instructions, it doesn't say anything about having to keep it bone dry.

I'll try to get a pic to post.

Here is a pic of my 6AL. This was taken before I wired it up, so it looks much better now.

That looks like it will work. I have a cold air intake that freed alot of space in that area. I guess I will start making a bracket to mount it to. (That area is not flat). Thanks For the input from everyone

87BOSS, did you have to extend any wires to the battery? I'm gonna mount mine where the air box used to be (was EFI, now carb'd). Nice valve covers, those are the old M/T's right? I got a set for my 302 finally.

86GT- yes, I did have to extend some of the wires. I ran them up along the lip on the firewall, so the main power and ground (I kept all my engine grounds in the same place) were extended using the next size larger wire than the 6AL had on it. I just used crimp butt connectors and taped them good. I think I also had to extend the red wire to the Ignition switch, but the wiring in my car was severly hacked when a previous owner went from EFI to carb.

Yes, those are old M/T valve covers. They are painted dark grey with the tops of the fins painted silver. I have seen them polished and with the black crinkle finish on Clevelands, and I think the grey looks a little better (at least on my engine). I like the fact that they have little fingers above each rockerarm to drip oil on them.
