Question Sometimes: Crank, then wants to die after sitting for a long time...

After the car's been sitting for a few hours (> 6), it wants to die after being cranked. If I tap (give a little) the gas, everything's fine, but if not, 40% of thetime it'll shut off. 2nd crank always no problem at all-- stays running. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

How fast does your fuel pressure bleed down after the key is turned off? it sounds like your pressure isn't staying up there very long. Possible leaky injectors, bad reg, or a problem with the pump, or the hose to it in the tank.

Aah. Cool. That sounds very possible. Thanks a bunch. That totally gives me somewhere to start fiddling around. It takes a few hours b4 it does that, say 5 to 6 hrs (sometimes), but especially overnight. But like I said b4, if I give it a little gas or crank it a second time, it doesn't do it again. In most things if I see the onset of a problem, I like to start taking things early on and not wait for it to totally die b4 I try fixing it.

BTW, it's good to see you posting here again PKRWUD, missed you. I know you're on RHC and have high rank there, but still good to see you here.

Well thank you! I have to say, it's a lot more work keeping a website together than I ever imagined, and keeping RHC together just takes so much time, that I never seem to get back here. I had some time the other night, and answered a few posts in here, and now I'm just trying to follow up on them. I will come by when I can, but if you ever have a question that you think I might be able to help you with, you can always find me at RHC, or contact me privately.

Good luck with your (more than likely) fuel pressure problem.

Take care,
~Chris
