Default Cheap Upgrade

Hey guys and gals,
Alright first off I'm gonna admit that I drive a 'sigh' 4 cylinder mustang. I probably should post in the small ford section but nobody seems to post all that much in there. What I'm inquiring about is some better flow for my little car. So far I've just pulled my intake silencer and gutted my intake muffler. I'm looking into some exhaust but I really want to replace the wimpy 140ci with a 347 stroker so I'm trying to limit spending. I've heard that Ford Rangers came stock with headers and that these headers make a little bit of an improvement for the 4 cyl in my car. Does anybody have any information on modifications that are needed to make this work. Honestly I would accept a simple "Yes it will" or "No it won't" but ideas are much appreciated as well.

If anyone is interested in my seeing my car check out

i saw a guy at the track with an 87-93 coupe, the motor had a t-bird turbo on it, or maybe it was the t-bird coupe motor, dont remember, but i saw him run a 15.0 on some skiiiiny tires.
sorry, i dont know about the ranger header thing, i do know they have good axles though.

Yeah fuel economy wise 4 cyl stangs rock. I get about 430km (sorry I'm canadian) to a tank with a shot cam. Power wise, some lawn mowers are catching up though.
Anyways getting back to my original post about the ranger header I found what I was looking for. If anyone is interested here's where:

http://www.binaryweb.com/fordtech/ra...er/index.shtml

I'll see if I can find the article that describes the "gutting the intake deal" I got that from but might just be me describing it wrong.
I'll leave this post in Small Ponies section too.

Peace and fun cruisin

Ok, this is generic advice, but here's what you can do:

Reduce weight! You dont need more horsepower if you make the car lighter. Best of all, it's free! Get in there and start ripping stuff out of the car. If the A/C doesnt work, thats like a great 100 pounds of crap that you can toss. Just get a new belt to replace the missing compressor. Toss the soundproofing behind the interior panels. Thats like 30-40 pounds. Not sure if the 2.3's have a vibration reducer on the rear axle, but you can toss that too if it exists: thats like 15 pounds. You can get crazy pete style and pull the big steel I-beam rear bumper and front bumper off. The plastic covers do not sag, contrary to popular belief. There's tons of other stuff, hell, I got 400 pounds of crap out of mine.

What do you get? Better milage, less strain on the remaining parts, better acceleration, better handling.

Not sure if pulleys fit that engine, but I love my underdrive pulleys. Go synthetic! Empty out the tranny and fill it up with redline atf. Go with redline synthetic on the rear axle (75w-90 ns?). Needless to say, mobil one in the motor.

For the best seat of the pants kick, get an old 8.8 rear axle (they're cheap from a junkyard) and stomp some FMS 4.10 or 4.30 gears in there. Those little motors can handle a lot of rpm. You'll be burning out at every green light.

Hope this helps!
