Need help with O2 Sensors on 95 GT
My neighbor bought a 95 GT Vert and It was running pretty poorly so I decided to help her out and do a tune up on her car. The first thing I found was that the car had the wrong spark plugs in it. I mean that these things stuck into the combustion chamber almost 1/2". (I screwed them in to my old cylinder heads to see how bad it was. I can't believe that they did not hit the pistons!!!)
Anyway, I put the correct plugs, cap, rotor, wires and fuel filter in her car with great results. The problem is that I suggested that she get new 02 sensors because the car has almost 60,000 but the parts store said that the 95's have 4 02 sensors. Can anyone verify this???? My 91 has 2. Thanks. ------------------ 91 Coupe with fresh rebuild. Stock T-5 and 3.73 gears. Big Blue Bottle on it's way!!! Best time so far = 60'=2.021, 1/8=8.366 at 86.37 mph and the 1/4 was 12.926 at 108.94mph. |

They have 2. Why do you want to replace them? Are you getting a check engine light? I'd try running it for awhile, they will clean themselves out.

For some reason every parts store I have been to says the 95s have 4 sensors...maybe it's a nationwide problem. Yes they have 2, and this one moron at a parts store was sure he was right..saying that they had 4. He also said something about his 98 cobra in the parking lot, but it was a GT...what a tool. I'm sure new ones would help a bit but the $100 is better spent elsewhere.

Don't quote me on this, but im pretty sure they do have 4, maybe not 94 and 95, but maybe 96+. I rad an article where it says that 2 are normal, and 2 are self heating at start-up to help with emissions.

ya, the 94-95s should only have 2, but they went to 4 on the 96+. no need to replace them, if there isn't a problem. I have almost 90k on my stockers in my 90lx, and passed emmisions perfectly. i know that jim_berg has the stockers on his 89, that now has a 351 in it, and he passed emmisions easily as well.

Thanks for the help guy's! I got it all completed yesterday. There are only 2 02 sensors and they are a beitch to get to!
Anyway, her car sounded like crap and ran like crap prior to this tune up, it would not even squeal the tires from a dead stop!! The severe ticking noise she was hearing had to be the plugs hitting the pistons, (I'll post a picture of the difference and also a picture of what the wrong plug looked like sticking into the combustion chamber) Anyway, now it starts, idle's and runs great. You guy's should have seen her face when she floored it! Thanks again guy's. |

I know the 95 GT has 2, I was asked "before or after the cats..." - it is a conspiracy! Well, they are before the cat's, but are only 2. Bosch number 13125? Autozone for about $55ea.
