camshaft gains w/new stuff
Alright i've got a question for everyone. It's likely i'm going to be buying a set of GT-40 heads off of a guy for an awesome price soon, and while i'm in the engine, i'm going to be gasket matching the heads to the intake and headers and replacing the lifters.
Just to give everyone an idea, i already have BBK fenderwell induction, 73mm MAF meter, 70mm Throttle body, trick flow street intake, 1.7 roller rockers, 1 5/8" headers w/2 1/2" exhaust. I think some GT-40 heads would match well with this combo in my opinion. What i'm wondering is, how much hp i could get with the new heads if i put in a new camshaft at the same time. Also, what would you guys recommend, i may end up getting a custom grind but i can also have this cam place copy most grinds and give me an awesome price as well. What cams, if any would you recommend? Any ballpark HP increase numbers? Your responses are always appreciated, Thanks, Rick

absolutly, u'll get alot more outa the heads with a bigger cam. with the P heads i'd go with either B or E cam or lunati makes a few that would be comparable. i'd guess 40-45hp with the cam an heads.

just make sure you have good healthy valve springs on those heads, and you should see a nice gain

Since you already have it.............
Since you have it apart already why not change the cam now, you have to ask yourself also if you have to worry about emission's.
If not then go for a cam with around 110 if you plan on staying natural aspirated, there are a number of good cam companies out there and also custom guys like Cam Motion, and Rick Anderson at AFM. |

If you don't mind me asking how much are you getting the heads for?
As far as the cam goes, do you plan on changing your combo in the future again? Like getting better heads? If so stay away from a custom, waste of money. Get one of the alphabet cams ford has, or I like the Stage 1 from TFS. Like previously said, make sure you have a good valve train. You should see anywhere from 30-50 rwhp.
