Check for exhaust leaks before you tear your engine apart and replace the lifters.

Most likely an exhaust leak. Usually a lifter tick you cant here when you are at higher rpm's.

I agree. Get a 3 foot piece of heater hose, and use it like a stethescope; put one end to your ear, and stick the other end around the exhaust ports when the engine is idling, and listen for it.

Take care,
~Chris

Don't mean to steal you thread man, but it'll help us both.

Will an exhaust leak go from ticking to louder knocking?

Eventually, yes. But only after it burns up the exhaust valve.

Don't forget to check at the h-pipe as well. I had a leak there, that sounded like lifters. Try jarring your exhaust pipes first, and see if it changes pitch a little. That's how I found mine. We were putting on slicks, and had to kick the pipes away, and when I fired it up, the noise was almost gone...

Now that (I think!) things lined up better, my h-pipe was loose.

Good luck!

3/8"x16x3/4" preferably with a 3/8" head.

Take care,

Luckily you'rs was just bolt. I was told mine's a bent valve after the motor was opened up. The heads have to be sent to a machine shop. What things would cause a valve to bend?

Also, since the motor is open, what else would anyone else recommend doing as far as mods or anything else. New valve springs, cam, etc?

Thanks.
