Any advice before starting on rear main?
Ok guys, I am supposed to change out my rear main and clutch on Saturday. I have a lift I can use at a friends house so that will be easier that the driveway fix. Anything I should know before I start? Any way to do it easier is what I am looking for. I have 2 friends that are going to be helping me out. One is an ASE mechanic at the Chevy dealer here in town, the other is a good mustang buddy who had done a few AOD to T-5 swaps in the past few years. I figure since the rear main has been leaking, the clutch probably has some oil on it too. Either way, since I have to take the clutch off, I am changing it. It has seen its share of burnout contests and 4k rpm launches in the past 2 yrs. Any help is greatly appreciated as always.
Chris

Sounds like your friends have it covered. Just check your crankshaft where it comes into contact with the rear main seal. I've seen some that had grooves worn into them from the rear main seals. If yours is grooved you may need to install a sleeve over the end of the crank which isn't a big deal. It's just something you want to look at just in case.

Thanks Mike. Anyway to keep this thing from going bad again? Seems like rear mains have a tendency to go out once they are replaced, like heater cores. At least for me anyway.
